Any way to view <Long Text> In Data Viewer

I was wondering if there is any way to view <Long Text> in the data viewer? I have a text data type, and when using the data viewer it just says "<Long Text>". That contains the data I actually want to watch... is there any way to get this? You could try casting to a DT_STR data type and use a data viewer on that, I suppose.

Any way to turn OFF tooltips in SSMS?

Generally, I like tooltips but when I'm reviewing the nightly jobs (Sql Server Agent > Jobs > View History) I find that they obsure the very status line I want to read! After a couple of months of this it's getting annoying. Is there a keyboard shortcut, or other approach, that can be used to temporarily (permanently?) disable ToolTips?

TIA,

Barkingdog

Right-click in the grey area next to your icons, point to Customize and then de-select the "Show Screen Tips on Toolbars".

If this answers your question, make sure to mark it "answered" so others can find it quickly.

I couldn't get it to work for me when I was looing at the results of the nightly job runs. Can you please clarify which icons you were referring to and where exactly in SSMS I can find them?

TIA,

barkingdog.

|||Sure -Open SSMS and look for any grey area next to the icons in the icon bar at the top. Right-click in that grey area, and then select "Customize" from the menu that appears. You'll see the option to select towards the bottom of the panel that shows up.

Any free examples that can download and view the database?

The free one that i have downloaded doesn't seem to be able to view the database. Is there any free database which i can download? Please advise. Thanks.

For example you can download sample databases here .

any difference betwween these 2 statement

hi all:

who can tell me what's the difference between the following 2 statement.

The 1st one:

CREATE VIEW country_v (country_code, country_name) AS
SELECT COUNTRY.CNTRY_CD, COUNTRY.CNTRY_NM
FROM COUNTRY

The 2nd one:

CREATE VIEW country_v AS
SELECT COUNTRY.CNTRY_CD, COUNTRY.CNTRY_NM
FROM COUNTRY

Actually i didnot make sense what's usage of the parameters when creating views?

Hi,

You override the column names in the view in the first statement, in second you reuse them as they are. This is required only when a column is derived from an arithmetic expression, a function, or a constant; when two or more columns may otherwise have the same name, typically because of a join; or when a column in a view is specified a name different from that of the column from which it is derived.

Regards,

Janos

It is not a parameter. It is a column aliases name. There is no big difference between these two view creation (only the column names are changed here).

Is the name to be used for a column in a view. A column name is required only when a column is derived from an arithmetic expression, a function, or a constant; when two or more columns may otherwise have the same name, typically because of a join; or when a column in a view is specified a name different from that of the column from which it is derived. Column names can also be assigned in the SELECT statement.

Note: If column is not specified, the view columns acquire the same names as the columns in the SELECT statement.

The following statements are identical.

Code Snippet

CREATE VIEW country_v (country_code, country_name)AS

SELECT COUNTRY.CNTRY_CD, COUNTRY.CNTRY_NM

FROM COUNTRY

--Or

CREATE VIEW country_vAS

SELECT COUNTRY.CNTRY_CD as country_code, COUNTRY.CNTRY_NM as country_name

FROM COUNTRY

Code Snippet

CREATE VIEW country_vAS

SELECT COUNTRY.CNTRY_CD, COUNTRY.CNTRY_NM

FROM COUNTRY

-- OR

CREATE VIEW country_v(CNTRY_CD,CNTRY_NM)AS

SELECT COUNTRY.CNTRY_CD, COUNTRY.CNTRY_NM

FROM COUNTRY

|||

Got it

Thanks to both
