Anybody ever use Actuate e.Reports?

I have an interview tomorrow for a dba position and they make frequent mention of this Actuate e.Report stuff and it looks like Crystal Reports from the web site. Any opinions? Is it garbage? Should I run and hide or chase and embrace? If its crap, I can blow this off. I have a few more things cooking.Yes, I used Actuate e.report before. Similar to Crystal Report, you can design your own e report for the internet. Nothing special, same design and running same sql scripting. Nothing special to me.|||We use Actuate at my work. I'm just an intermediate developer myself, but some of the reports developed by our central IT folks are just incredible. It seems to be very powerful, but kind of a pain to learn.

few different offerings and I like this one the best. Additional
performance tools can be purchased as a suite (Quest Central) or as
indiviual components.

SP or ad hoc query that run more than 1 minues. If I found one, then I will
try to optimize the SQL statement. Why am I doing this? because I am a new
DBA, and most of our database design were done by a consultant firm. And I
found that a lot of SP were done terriblely.

1. any dba checklist information available on the net, e.g. daily operation,
weekly or monthly
2. will the dba switch on the server-side trace during product to monitor
any abnormal behaviour? if yes, any examples?

AntiVirus Software on SQL Server?

As a DBA, I was taught that running Anti-virus software on a database server
was not a very good thing to do. My network admin is planning a Windows 2000
migration and would like all machines across the domain to run AV software.
Can anyone tell me about their experience running AV software on their
database server, and whether this is a good idea or not.
The box runs SQL 6.5sp5a (soon to be 2k) and does not touch the outside
world at all.

CurtisAs much as you may want to keep anti-virus software away
from a SQL box, you'll soon realize that that's a lost
battle. When there is a virus crisis, whatever arguments
you may have to avoid anti-virus on your SQL box, you'll
end being defeated badly.
My experience is to simply give up on avoiding virus scan
completely, and ask for the SQL files being excluded from
the virus scan. I typically ask the security folks to
exclude the following files from being scanned: *.MDF,
*.LDF, *.NDF, *.BAK, *.TRN, and *.BKP.
The primary reason you don't want anti-virus scanning is
that the virus scan software may get hold of a SQL
data/log file and prevents SQL Server from opening it,
resulting in the database being put into the suspect mode.
Usually, these data/log files are open all the time, and
therefore not an issue. But sometimes we may need to shut
down SQL Server instance or detach a database. Before we
restart SQL Server or attach the database, if the virus
software gets ahead of us, we are screwed.
There are also some issues with SQL Server running in a
cluster.
