Hi,
This is my first post here.
I'm running SQL Server 2000 and have a database that cannot be backed
up properly because it "is in the middle of a restore." This is because
of a restore that was started and then stopped.
Users are still able to add data to the database, so I would prefer to
simply stop the restore if possible, rather than run the restore again,
as the backup I have is two days old.
Any help GREATLY appreciated!
thank you,
Brian Honeycutt
Hi,
thanks for the reply.
How would I refresh the EM?
You may be right in that they are connecting to a different SQL
database.
Still, I would like to backup this DB up if possible. But that entails
completing the restore or stopping it somehow.
Any ideas on that?
thanks a lot,
brian

Right-click the "Databases" folder and click "Refresh".
It should be find just to execute the RESTORE command again. If the GUI won't let you, try from a
query window.

any way to rollback dbase
Hi just wondering if there is anyway to roll back a database? For example
the last time the database was backed up say 3 months ago and a restore was
done yesterday. Just wondering if there is anyway to undo the restore?
Thanks.

No, a database restore can't be undone because all data in the target are
replaced during the restore.
Hope this helps.

Sure -- this can be easily done.
Assuming you have a backup you took immediately
prior to the restore.
What's that? You don't have one? Well, why not?
Chalk this one up as a lesson learned.
Really, there's no way without another backup

Any way to repair the damage backup file?
Maybe post to wrong group, I am sorry.
If my backup file has error so that the restore is failed, is there any way
to repair the damage backup file?
(The restore procedure of 2005 report there is an error on page 65535:-1)
Thx.
To the best of my knowledge, there's no repair option for a backup. But in 2005, you have the
CONTINUE_AFTER_ERROR option for the RESTORE command. Of could, you will then have a database win
some corruption which you need to handle.

Thx.
To the best of my knowledge, there's no repair option for a backup. But in 2005, you have the
CONTINUE_AFTER_ERROR option for the RESTORE command. Of could, you will then have a database win
some corruption which you need to handle.

Any way to attach a dual-log-file database without the log files?
Odd problem I ran into today - we'll restore from backups, but I'd
like to know if there's another way around it.
Our problem is that a log file got so big it filled up the drive.
Couldn't even switch it to simple mode. So the thought was to detach
it, then attach it without the log file. However, it appears that we
had two log files in that database, so we get the following when
trying to use sp_attach_single_file_db:
File activation failure. The physical file name "E:\generic
\generic_log.ldf" may be incorrect.
The log was not rebuilt because there is more than one log file.
Msg 1813, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Could not open new database 'Generic'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted.
Any thoughts? Thanks.Did you try sp_attach_single_file_db? According to BOL for 2005, this should allow attaching a db
having one data file but multiple log files. Actually, sp_attach* procedures are deprecated so use
CREATE DATABASE ... FOR ATTACH (or in this case FOR_ATTACH__REBUILD_LOG) instead. Also, see the
information on BOL for CREATE DATABASE and ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG.

Any possibility?
Any possibility?
Right now I have a 600 MB space free and on my system I have a 6 GB backup
file and I want to restore it on my own system...
I don't have any network where I have place this file and restore it from
there and no DVD which support this 6 GB... any
possibility like when I restore this file the backup file also remove
simultaneously so that space would be there... I am
sure it's not possible but might be some idea from you guys...
thanks

Why not purchase a small USB hard drive. You can get one for about $129
that will give you the needed space for these type of operations. Or a
second internal hard drive which might be cheaper. Or a friend's
networked PC or laptop.
