Anyone recently installed SQL Server 2000 Eval version

Hello,

I am having trouble installing Evaluation copy of SQL Server on my
notebook, which has XP, P4 processor,1G Ram, and 14 G harddisk space.

After I run the Setup.exe, I get the files files extracted in the
SQLEVAL directory.

As per the instruction, I need to run Autorun.exe file. For some
reason, when I try to run this file, a new windows pops up, which is
blank black screen with cursor flying around in the window. The title
of the window is
C:\windows\system32\wowexec.exe

This is how far I have reached while trying to install the database. I
would really appreciate if someone could provide some suggestions.

I have no idea what the problem is, but perhaps you could try running the
setup program directly - I think it's called setupsql.exe, in the \setup
folder (from memory).

Anyone familiar with dashCommerce?

I've installed it on my local machine using SQL Server 2005 Express with no problem. Now I need to install it on the server. I want to use the remote SQL Server 2005 database, but that means installing the scripts manually. I did that and thought it went well, but I'm getting all kinds of errors, so there's a problem of some kind.

I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed. I's be happy enough to use that, but I don't know how to. I tried to install and got an error that I couldn't create a database. I don't want to try to do it manually again, that didn't work very well before.

How do I do this?

Diane

Did you successfully install Express edition on the server? What kind of Sql Server is installed on your remote server? What kind of error are you getting. Without seeing the errors, it is very hard to tell what might be the problem. Post the error here.

Any issues with using Noton Ghost with SQL Server?

I seem to recall from reading an article that there are issues with backing
up hard drives with Norton Ghost with SQL Server or MSDE installed.
However, I can't seem to find the KB article. Can someone confirm this with
resource articles?
Thanks in advance. The issue is most likely if your trying to do this while SQL Server is
running. If it's not running I don't see why you couldn't ghost it but that
is not a very efficient way to backup sql server.

application uses MSDE 2000 and it is set to autostart when OS starts. When
customers backup with with Ghost, I doubt they will turn off MSDE (they will
have to search for it since SQL Server Service Manager is not in the tray).
If they reinstall the image, will there be any issues with MSDE or the
databases?

when sql server is running. I would look into writing some simple BACKUP
and RESTORE scripts. They work the same on MSDE as they do on any edition
and are the correct way to backup the databases.

Hi there

I have installed Visual Studio 2003, and the .net framework, we currently use sql server 2000
I have created a report in visual studion with raw SQL and I want to deploy it to my local host, however I get the message "no report server was found at (my server)"
I also tried to install reporting services but when I do I get the message "asp.net not registered with web server"
I know I am proberly missing something simple but I just cant locate it
Any help appreciated
Thanks
TimHi

You can't install SQL Reporting Services on a non server OS. You can only install a client version on XP to allow you to create SRS reports and preview them. When you build your SRS projects in VS 2003 it tries to deploy the report to your actual reportserver(server OS box). In your case you didn't specify a location. Do this : In VS2003. Click on Project >> Properties >> Configuration Properties >> Delpoyment. Fill in the "TargetServerURL" something likehttp:\\<server>\reportserver and add a TargetFolder to deploy the report to. Just click OK and build the Solution it will deploy the report to your SQL Reporting Server box.

, Hope this helps

There is a necessary sequence of events to follow:

Let me try to understand what you have posted -

Windows 2000 or 2003 was installed as the OS -

After installation did you go to MANAGE YOUR Server and indicate that within MANAGE YOUR SERVER ROLES the following:

Application Server indicate to configure Front Page Extensions and ASP.Net

After that you installed SQL 2000

Installed the service packs especially SP3a

Downloaded RSEVAL (Reporting Services)

Installed with SP1 and SP2

After reporting services was installed - go to IIS and select properties of Report Server and make sure anonymous access is disabled.

From your browserHTTP://localhost/reports

If you cannot get to the above http - then there are a bunch of minor issues - post back!

If you can get to above URL

edit administrator and ensure they can dio everything for the time being

Within your RS project point to your server and also to your database within the project properties and also ensure this is the dame within your data sources (shared) or spperate.

Data Source=YOUR SERVER NAME;Initial Catalog=YOUR DATA BASE NAME

Post back so we can help!

|||I read this post again - Run RSGEGISTER -- Done deal --|||

I am having the same problem. My SQL Server is on my machine. But the Report Server is on a server that I have to access, not on my machine. I keep getting the error:

An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)Get Online HelpCannot create a connection to data source 'SANDO'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)Get Online HelpAn OLE DB Provider was not specified in the ConnectionString. An example would be, 'Provider=SQLOLEDB;'.

Any help on this SMO request?

My evaluation copy ran-out and I uninstlaled the previous and installed anothrer evaluation edition. The installation was successful. I created a SSIS package importing a tale from Oracle 10G XE to the SQL 2005 on my machine. I saved the package on the server. The SSIS service is working but when I try to refresh the node, I get this message. The help linl leads to no where:

My efforts so far:

I have verified the items in the Surface area screen, everythign looks good.

SSIS service has started.

Both teh Network Server TCP/IP dynmaic port and the SQL Client TCP/IP dynamic port are the same.

I have no problem logging in to any of the services. But I get this message.

I tried to create a package from Visual Studio, but that also did not succeed.

In my previous set up, I created perhaps 1/ 2 dozen different packages.

I am puzzzled.

I appreciate if some one could throw some light.

If you could get the function call stack when the error occurs, that would help diagnose the problem. At the bottom of the exception message box, there is a little icon with a tooltip like "technical details" which displays this information.

Also, if you could provide more specific steps to reproduce the problem, that would help too. Are you using SSIS when you get this problem, or some Management Studio UI that uses SSIS, like the Copy Database Wizard? You can get more specific SSIS configuration help in the SSIS forum here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=80&SiteID=1

AntiVirus Software

We have McAfee VirusScan installed on our database server. I would like to
configure the system not to scan *.bak, *.mdf, *.ldf. My question:
1. Is this the right configuration ?
2. By doing so, any potential security breach ?
3. By doing so, will the SQL box performance improve a bit?
Furthermore, we will have a new clustered SQL insatlled later on in our data
center, any recommendation on antiVirus configuration on SAN ?
Much appreciated.Hi
By not allowing the file extensions to be scanned will mean any file in any
directory will be able to have this extension, you may want to look at
excluding by directory, which if would leave less possibilities for a rogue
file if your permissions are tight enough, a combination of both would be
even tighter!!.
You may want to run MBSA to see if it recomends anything to be improved.
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;309422 also
recommends .ndf files but database files can have any extension name so make
sure that any database file extension is included in an exclude list. The
article also gives recommendations for SAN discs.
Make sure that your database do not have the autoclose property set.
If you have full text searching then you should look at not scanning
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\FTData"
A-V software can cause problems such as
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;170338
The performance effect of the a-v software will depend to some extent on the
hardware you are running, make sure that when it is running it is not too
resource hungry and your disc have not become a bottleneck.

directories. You can selectively disallow the scanning of the data file and
transaction log directories.

file. If it scans the entire GB sized files from top to bottom while
referncing every possible virus signature pattern, it would result in a lot
of wasted I/O, CPU cycles, and possibly locking issues.
First make sure you have installed the version specifically designed to run
on a server. Also, it may only be prudent to have it scan only those file
types typically infected by viruses.

I've found McAfee to be about the worst choice for anti virus, especially on
a
server. It's bloated, heavy handed, and almost amateurish in its ability to
discriminate between what constitutes a threat and what doesn't.
For ease of use, small footprint, and utter effectiveness have a look at AVG
.
Although I'm disheartened by the fact that they've been acquired by microsof
t,
it's been almost a year now and I haven't seen any overtly negative changes
yet.
