Anybody know how to solve this error when accessing a linked server that isn't a SQL data

any link to capacity management for SQL Servers ?

This is not just tied to disk space, but also CPU load, IO, n/w

Any keyboard shortcut for "open table" in Mgt Studio?

Folks, does anyone know if there is a keyboard shortcut to open a database table in Management Studio? I refer to the equivalent to right-clicking on a table to choose "open table", in order to view/edit the data.

I find no reference to an equivalent in the menu, nor even any reference to "open table" in the online help. I've dug around the web, to no avail. Surely other keyboard fans must groan at the need to touch the mouse for this frequent operation. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but that's about creating new shortcuts. I was looking for any existing ones. The previous answer about using shift-f10 will suffice.

As for why one would use the "open table" option, do you realize that it permits editing the data? That's certainly much easier in that interface than using SQL statements in query analyzer. Sure, you're right that if you had a large table it may not make sense. I don't, so it works fine for me.

Any hierarchical functionatility in Management Studio in 2005

I am thinking, if there is the functionality that can hierachically group the tables, views, and stored procedures into different sections within each database, it will be much clearer and logical for maintain the database objects.

For example, to create containers in the console tree of Management Studio or Enterprise Manager, or even apply the namespace/subnamespace features to the tables/views/stored procedures of each database.

A clearer explanation:

Inside each database, all the tables, stored procedure and views are at the same level, if new folders/containers can be created to segmen all these database objects into different groups, it will be much more clear.

An even advanced feature is to apply namespace concept to the database objects, so that it will truly hierachical besides the appearnce in the console tree.

This probably isn't exactly what you're looking for, but ...

You can use SCHEMAs to put tables, procedures, types, etc. into separate namespaces.

From SSMS, you can

Create a new schema from the "Database/Security/Schemas" node in Object Explorer|||
